  • Cole Medin emphasizes that Amazon Alexa Plus has adopted MCP (Multi-Channel Protocol) servers as the standard for connecting outside services, positioning existing MCP server developers to easily build for Alexa Plus with minimal changes.
  • This integration is central to the Amazon Developer Global Hackathon, which features an Alexa Plus track where participants can build or bring an MCP server/agent skill, simulating the full experience in a web app using Agentic tools.
  • The hackathon offers $190,000 in total cash and AWS credits, with a $25,000 cash reward and $15,000 AWS credits for first place in the Alexa Plus track. Submissions close on October 23rd.
  • The key practical takeaway is that participants don’t need to learn anything new, leveraging their existing MCP server knowledge, and their feedback directly informs Amazon’s product teams.
