California Brown Pelican

Blog · Watch/Read · (gathered 2026-09-13)

  • Simon Willison documented a wildlife sighting of California Brown Pelicans in San Mateo County, CA.
  • The observation highlights a significant gathering of pelicans at the Pacifica Pier.
  • This “takeover” of the pier by pelicans occurred after its closure in June 2026 due to a crack in its concrete walkway, making it unsafe for human access.
