- Cloudflare is acquiring Deno primarily for its
celldtechnology, an open-source implementation of Durable Objects, to advanceworkerdself-hosting, rather than for the Deno runtime itself. - The Deno runtime will only receive bug fixes and security updates for one more year from Cloudflare, after which its development will cease, leaving it to the open-source community.
- Deno creator Ryan Dahl explained his agreement, stating Deno got “sucked into the gravity well of Node compatibility” and isn’t solving “big problems,” shifting his focus to new abstractions like
celld. - Simon highlights Deno’s robust permissions system, allowing granular control over file/folder access and specific network hosts, a feature still more advanced than Node.js’s newer, less specific network permissions.
