web-edit 0.1a0

Blog · Watch/Read · (gathered 2026-10-14)

  • Simon Willison released web-edit 0.1a0, a new Python web app for securely viewing and editing files within a folder, primarily from mobile devices.
  • The project was motivated by the need to edit sensitive files (like credentials) while working remotely via Codex Remote, without round-tripping them through an LLM.
  • web-edit was built with assistance from AI models (Codex and GPT-6 Astra Extra High) and is designed to be run over Tailscale, enabling secure, direct mobile access to files.
  • The web app uses CodeMirror 6 for its editing interface, specifically chosen for its better mobile experience over Monaco.
