Game Boy Color on My Conference Badge

Blog · Watch/Read · (gathered 2026-10-29)

  • Simon Willison highlights that the GitHub Universe conference badge is a “full-blown color screen computer” and highly hackable.
  • He discovered that Steve Francia, working with Gemini, successfully deployed emulators for NES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color onto the badge.
  • The badge features built-in game controller touch buttons that become accessible when the device is turned upside down.
  • This allows attendees to run classic games like “The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” directly on their badge, provided they can obtain the ROM.
